Falling Out of the Automobile

Don't let it happen to your dog!

"He's never done it before!"

Sadly, we've heard this expressed by too many owners who let their dogs roam freely in the back of trucks or leave the window down in the car. It only takes once for a tragic accident like the one above to happen to your pet.

The area in red is a fractured right femur. It is a very complicated, and expensive, surgery to repair. The dog was in the back of truck. The accident occured when the owners made a turn around a corner and the dog fell out. They were making a normal turn at a four-way stop (i.e. not very fast). You don't have to be going fast to sustain an injury like this.

If you must keep your dog in the back of a truck, keep him or her in a crate that is securely fastened to the truck. If your dog is traveling inside the car, make sure they have a pet safey belt on and don't keep the windows down.

Thank you.
