Deodorizing A "Skunked" Pet

The October 18, 1993, issue of Chemical and Engineering News (p.90) gives a formula developed by chemist Paul Krebaum (Lisle, IL) for deodorizing a skunk-afflicted pet. The formula is:

1 quart 3% hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
1 teaspoon liquid soap

The bath should be followed with a tap water rinse.
