Ease your pet into a daily brushing routine

Day 1:     Rub your pet's muzzle and gently lift lip for 30 seconds.

Day 2:     Repeat day 1, then run your finger over your pet's teeth for 30-45 seconds.

Day 3:     Repeat day 2, but increase time to one minute.

Day 4:     Introduce the “fingerbrush,” a plastic toothbrush that fits over
your index finger, to brush pet's teeth for 30 seconds.

Day 5:     Repeat day 4, adding toothpaste.

Day 6:     Increase brushing time, until each side is brushed for 30
to 45 seconds.

Helpful Hints

    • For cats, try dipping the brush in tuna fish juice before introducing the toothpaste.

    • If your pet resists, don't force it.  Try again the next day.

    • Stop immediately if your pet shows any signs of aggression.

    • Always praise your pet and give a treat after brushing.

    • Do the brushing about the same time every day.

    • Human toothpaste is for humans and NOT for pets.  It is common for human toothpaste to cause stomach problems and even vomiting.

    • Fingerbrushes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, oral cleansing gel, and other dental-care products for your pet are sold here at our office.
